MONIKA GERBER

Monika Gerber is a German artist who lives and works between Los Angeles and Madrid. She studied painting at the Academy of Art in Munich with the renowned artist Karl Fred Dahmen, a member of the European abstract expressionist movement. She later moved to California, spending five years in San Francisco before relocating to Los Angeles. There, she worked as a scenic artist for Sony Pictures Studio and spent 20 years with Disney Imagineering as an art director and color designer. During that time, she lived and worked in Japan, where she learned the language and developed a deep interest in Japanese culture, eventually studying Japanese calligraphy. Gerber has held numerous exhibitions across Los Angeles, Berlin, and Asia. Her passion for travel and her immersion in different cultures reveal a clear Asian influence in her work, where her calligraphic brushstrokes stand out. In many of her pieces, she works with mixed media, incorporating photographs taken during her travels. The canvas becomes her field of experimentation, where she primarily explores colors and textures. She creates her own tools, integrating them into her paintings like relics from another era.

Monika Gerber es una artista alemana que vive y trabaja entre Los Angeles y Madrid. Estudió Pintura en la AcademIa de Arte en Munich con el conocido artista Karl Fred Dahmen, perteneciente a la corriente del expresionismo abstracto europeo. Se trasladó a California y, tras cinco años en San Francisco, se fue a Los Angeles. Estuvo trabajando para Sony Pictures Studio como artista escénico. Trabajó en Disney Imagineering durante 20 años como directora de arte y diseñadora de colores. En esa época trabajó y vivió en Japón donde aprende el idioma y se interesa profundamente por la cultura japonesa, llegando a conocer la caligrafía japonesa. Realiza numerosas exposiciones entre Los Angeles, Berlín y Asia. Su afán por viajar e impregnarse de las diferentes culturas muestran una clara influencia asiática en todos sus trabajos, donde destacan sus brochazos de caligrafía. En muchas de sus piezas trabaja con técnicas mixtas, integrando fotografías que realiza durante sus viajes. El espacio del lienzo es su campo de experimentación, donde trabaja principalmente con los colores y texturas. Crea sus propias herramientas y las integra en los cuadros como estampas venidas de otro tiempo. >
